Merseyside Jewish Showcase welcomes over 200 people to community event

The Merseyside Jewish Representative Council was proud to host the inaugural Merseyside Jewish showcase on Sunday, The National Lottery Community Fund made an award to the MJRC to develop a range of activities, and to recruit and support volunteers to make a difference in the community, the showcase was a culmination of over two years’ work by a group of dedicated community development volunteers. Over 200 members of the community attended, and there was a good mix of people synagogue  members, cultural & secular Jews, Israelis, with  ages range from 4 months to 94years

Over the past two years the volunteers have established relationships with various aspects of the Liverpool Jewish community both secular and religious. A number of events and activities that have taken place with the aim of developing an enshrining community cohesion. The four volunteers behind the event Lisa Bloom, Henry Churney Beryl Greenberg & Zarah Ross hoped to highlight the range of services and Jewish owned businesses in the area, and to showcase the activities and skills within the community. The vibrant marketplace was  filled with informative stalls showcasing local businesses, along with a variety of fun activities designed especially for children, these activities included a dedicated Little Ones: Baby & Toddler Space, and an Olive garden containing arts, craft, lego, circus toys and inflatables.

The event was also filled with the delicious smells coming from the food workshops in which participant were given the opportunity to make Isreali Street Food, and to create Healthy Snacks for children. The event organisers were delighted to incorporate elements of the LOHC heritage seasonThe focus of this year’s event was to bring together Jewish businesses and services with the community to show the breadth of activities that are going on next year organisers hope to secure funding to make the event even bigger and to bring other agencies such as health, fire and rescue and screening services to the event to offer them the opportunity to engage with the Merseyside Jewish community
