About us

The MJRC acts as an umbrella organisation for communal cohesion and has formal links to the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council, individual organisations also have close links to national Jewish Community organisations. Locally, activities include:

  • Representing the Communities of Liverpool, Southport, Wirral and Chester and its neighbouring areas.
     

  • Acting as a facilitator, promoting co-operation and collaboration within the Jewish community, as well as between the community and the statutory authorities.
     

  • Facilitating and promoting Jewish educational, cultural and religious activity.
     

  • Representing the civic, cultural and faith life of the wider Merseyside Community.
     

  • Facilitating and promoting interfaith and inter-ethnic understanding and harmony.
     

  • To support the interests of all Jews in the area.

  • Liaison with Community Security Trust (CST), local politicians, local authorities and other organisations concerning antisemitism and community security.

​

  • Development and management for supporting community life offline and an online hub enabling community members and others to obtain local news, information on services and events.

​

  • Circulation of a weekly Community Newsletter.

​

  • Co-sponsoring of communal events.

​

  • Liaison with Local Authority and other organisations concerning Covid 19 action.

​

  • Organising and/or sponsoring major communal events.

​

  • Funding and arranging the Annual Civic Service.

​

  • Funding Jewish prize giving as sponsor of prizes to both King David Schools.

​

  • Membership of the Board of Deputies and liaison with the Jewish Leadership Council.

​

  • Working to shape the future and quality of Jewish life on Merseyside.

​

  • In addition to regular Executive meetings of elected and community representatives, full Council Meetings open to all the community are held three times a year.
